Our Story

We are Craig, Chrissy and Birdie and we feel grateful to call Shambhala our home. We live, grow, play, love and learn on this beautiful 12 acre land that is also our Farm and Yoga Shala.

Shambhala Farm was a dream that started 15 years ago when Craig made his way from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast in search of a better life. After finding out that he was going to be a father, he felt the pull to learn and live a more sustainable way of life. He left his successful food business in Sydney and plunged into learning about organic growing. He spent four years learning from local growers, courses and training programs with some of the best growers in their field. Craig could see that there was a desperate need for younger generations to step into the organic growing field as the older growers moved into retirement. He began working with the land that is now called Shambhala in 2012 and grew the dream into a thriving business.

The last 10 years have been a work of love, growth, sweat and tears as Shambhala has morphed into its current form of Food Growing, Education, and Yoga. When Craig and Chrissy met in Bali in 2017, the Yoga Shala came to be and its creation brought a very sacred space to this land. Chrissy had been teaching yoga for 10 years and she brought her knowledge and passion for movement and heart centred living to the business. In 2019, Chrissy and Craig fell pregnant with their first child which sadly ended in a pregnancy loss. While she was still healing from the pain of the loss, Chrissy was drawn to growing flowers on the Farm. It wasn't long before there were beds of abundant cosmos, dahlias, zinnias and sunflowers growing on the land.

The introduction of flowers to the Farm brought so much beauty, biodiversity as well as the surprise pregnancy of little Birdie Skye. Birdie was born in June of 2020 and her birth brought about powerful change to Craig and Chrissy's vision for Shambhala. It was then that Craig realised it wasn't enough to grow vegetables for the community. It was time to teach others how to grow their own food. From this realisation, the Shambhala Food Growing Course was born and is currently being offered Online and OnFarm a few times a year.

Chrissy, Craig and Birdie live and work on the land and enjoy slow-paced days connected to nature. They are always learning ways to better care for the land and for their family as well as how to give back to Mama Earth. They can be found going for walks around the Farm with Birdie on most days, picking flowers, or simply dreaming up the next project or gathering on offer. Craig and Chrissy are passionate about giving Birdie a wild and nature-inspired upbringing full of wonder and heart centred living.

Above all, they are two people doing their best to live each day to its fullest, in connection with their own hearts as well as with nature. Living on the land of Shambhala brings them many opportunities to do this and for that reason, they are utterly grateful.
